Supporting the #MouldFreeHome campaign

I joined Fleur Anderson MP who is introducing a Bill for a #MouldFreeHome

This week I joined my colleague Fleur Anderson MP to support her campaign to introduce strong legislation to tackle disrepair in the private rented sector.

Currently, 2.7 million people across the UK are renting cold, damp or mouldy homes, this figure includes 1.6 million children.

Following the tragic death of 2-year-old Awaab Ishak in December 2020, the Government introduced Awaab’s Law which requires social housing landlords to fix reported health hazards within specified deadlines.

Fleur’s Bill proposes extending Awaab’s Law to the private rented sector so that landlords can be held to greater account by their tenants.

I see the devastating impacts of damp and mould on the health and wellbeing of my constituents everyday, that is why I am proud to support this Bill.
