Celebrating International Women’s Day- why we must end the ‘gender play gap’

To celebrate International Women’s Day I joined the Year 7 female football team at King’s Leadership Academy in Liverpool Riverside for their biggest ever football session.

It was great to meet such enthusiastic young girls and talk about their love of football and the exciting opportunities for women in sport.

I was also reminded by the girls about the significant challenges and barriers many women still face in sport- from grassroots all the way to championship level.

I am proud that the Labour Party have committed to boost support for girls in sport at school so that we can end the ‘gender play gap’.
